A true taste of Mexico, The Basement Bar has rather successfully managed to imitate real Mexican flavour in its dishes. In Edinburgh, the Mexican culinary scene has gone largely down the fast-food route with burrito bars serving quick but substantial wraps that seem to substitute size over flavour. The Basement on the other hand can be seen as a refreshing step away from this trend and more in the direction of restaurant standard food. While the Basement Bar is indeed a bar its has managed to achieve that happy medium between the bustle of the bar atmosphere and the more tempered dining experience.
