Each month we like to chat to a different Edinburgh local to get their take on the city. This month it’s the turn of Mairi Beaver, marketing whizz by day and instagram and blogging guru by night.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
By day I work in marketing for an environmental manufacturing group called Empteezy. By night I help various clubs and businesses in Edinburgh with their websites and blogging – it means I get to work with some amazing people, including the Scottish Rugby team. Then, when I have some spare time, you will find me watching the Real Housewives or sipping wine in a corner.
Tell us more about your blog and instagram account.
I began blogging in 2016 when I was in the dark depths of online dating. I shared stories with my pals that they found funny and it grew from there. Now, thankfully in a relationship, my blog Thisgirldoes has evolved into thoughts on our city, food (a lot of it) and keeping people up to date with events. I am social media daft – instagram gives me an outlet to not only promote my blog but give people a sneak peek into my weird and wonderful life. I am very lucky to enjoy some amazing experiences, so I try to take my followers along for the ride.

What are some of your favourite Edinburgh experiences you have reviewed/been to recently?
We were lucky enough to be invited to Maison Bleue’s 20th birthday party – why have I never been before?! The food, the atmosphere, the staff… everything about it was simply stunning. It has slid into my top 5 restaurants in Edinburgh and can’t wait to go back.
A little bird tells us you love cleaning any top tips to keep your house sparkling!
Any tip I have is stolen from Mrs Hinch (I know, I know). Seriously though, I could clean morning, day and night. My two top tips are mixing lenor with water into a spray bottle and scooshing it whenever you want a blast of fragrance in your home and invest in distilled vinegar; it will clean anything and everything.
What does your perfect day in Edinburgh look like?
It’s a crisp cool day, somewhere between the tourists leaving and arriving. We start off in Stockbridge with a lunch at Henri’s and obviously pop into Smith and Gertrude for lunch number 2. The afternoon is spent exploring the shops of the new town; Dundas Street, Howe Street…. There is such a fascinating variety but I only ever pass them by car. In the evening we head to Six by Nico for one of their delicious themed tasting menus and if I can fit it in, spend the night sipping bubbles in Tigerlily. The day is made even more special by my boyfriend paying for everything!

Is there anything in the city you haven’t done yet and would like to?
Camera Obscura. I keep telling myself I will get it done every year and it keeps slipping from my mind. It seriously looks like so much fun – so this year, I promise!
What’s your life motto?
Life is what you make of it. You can be or do anything you want to – there is only one person holding you back. I don’t ever want to be the person who looks back at 80 and thinks I wish… it’s just not who I am.
