We are lucky enough to sample their home delivery offering recently and we weren’t disappointed, so read on to discover more!

Where Are They Located?

Victor Hugo Deli is an institution in Edinburgh, originally founded in 1955, they moved into their Edinburgh Meadows location in 1969 and the rest is history as they say!

If you are in the city centre, you will have spotted they also have a deli on George Street, at the moment it is closed due, but is due to open up again soon.

The Menu

The home delivery offering has a huge range of options to pick from which you can view from their easy to use mobile ready website.

Some of their most popular items include their stacked sandwiches like their legendary Grilled Pastrami on Rye, layer after layer of pastrami, sliced gherkin, Emmental cheese & delicious mayonnaise, or their extremely popular eggs Benedict rolls, which some with super runny yolks!

While their delicious gourmet baguettes including Le Parisien, with brie, fresh apple, salad and red onion marmalade and the Guacamole & Grilled Veg, with guacamole, toasted pine nuts, roast courgette, roast peppers, grated carrot and rose harissa are also firm favourites with customers.

If you are wanting something served not, their burgers really hit the spot and their pasta options include Macaroni Cheese and Lasagne are divine!  Or why not choose a classic like a Ciabatta Melts or Croque Monsieur.

And finally if you have a sweet tooth they have some fantastic cakes and pastries too!

Now all you need to do is decide!

What Did We Order?

We ordered a good selection to share. A couple of things to mention are that everything comes well wrapped up and in paper bags, so the hot food is still hot and unlike Deliver orders which can end up bashed about a bit, they came perfectly presented as if you had just bought them out the deli moments earlier. They also do contactless delivery too, a buzz of your door bell and it is waiting outside for you.

I opted for one of their fresh crusty baguettes packed with brie and salad and we also went for one of their croque monsieur’s which is served with a side of coleslaw and russian salad and to polish things off one of their Signature Sandwich’s a grilled Pastrami on Rye, which comes with a huge pile of pastrami, sweet gherkins, Emmental cheese and our house dressing!

A sharing quiche was also ordered! This is their goats cheese quiche which also comes with a generous couple of sides.

To finish things off we opted for a couple of their Portuguese custard tarts and some Millionaires shortbread.

They also have a great selection of hot and cold drinks, we ordered a couple of coffees and a Bundaberg Ginger Beer which reminded him of Australia. its great to see a drinks menu which isn’t just the usual run of the mill soft drinks, they also have a range of San Pellegrino drinks, Arizona Iced Teas and Big Tom Spiced Tomato Mix (perfect for a Sunday hangover brunch).

How Do I Order?

If that has whet your appetite! To order head over to their website and make your order directly through the site, then just sit back and relax!

If you do want to visit the deli’s in person, Melville Terrace is open daily from 8am until 4.30pm and from 9am on a Sunday, with George Street to open up again very soon!
