SCOTCH at The Balmoral Hotel
Located at probably the most prestigious address in Edinburgh, SCOTCH is in fact quite a hidden gem. An intimate bar, set within the five-star Balmoral Hotel, offers both hotel residents and Edinburgh locals an informative and cosy Whisky experience. The team of knowledgeable and passionate Whisky Ambassadors are on hand to guide guests through the impressive collection of over 500 Scotch whiskies. For a more detailed experience the Ambassadors can host an entire Whisky journey, alternatively they are just as happy sharing their knowledge in a more informal blether over the bar. And of course, for those who prefer to enjoy a whisky mix there are a good selection of cocktails the menu along with some tasty bites to compliment the bar’s namesake.

Usquabae Whisky Bar & Larder
In a basement in the trendy west-end of Edinburgh sits the dark but stylish Usquabae Whisky Bar and Larder. The bar has been inspired by the Robert Burns’ poem, “Tam O’ Shanter”, with their mantra being that ‘the pursuit of drinking whisky is a saintly and noble quest – should you meet the devil, you’ll only survive if you’re fortified with Usquabae.
The bar offers a superb range of whisky flights, served with light bites to complement the flight. Each tasting session must be pre-booked and is tailored to suite the taste of each guest, from complete beginners right through to the ‘old and rare’ ideal for those who have a real passion for whisky.
For those not interested in the national drink there is also a good variety of other spirits, wines and beers.

Devil’s Advocate
Once an old Victorian pump house this building, nestled away in one of Edinburgh’s Old Town Closes, has been transformed into a stylish and atmospheric bar that boasts a 400- strong eclectic collection of whiskies from around the world. The award-winning bar tenders are on hand to guide guests through the collection or serve an inventive cocktail (with or without whisky). The bar also has a selection of craft beers and considered wine list and a seasonal food menu should guests want to enjoy a dining experience too.

The Black Cat Bar
Located on one of Edinburgh’s most famous ‘pub streets’ this independent bar is a must visit for those who enjoy a wee dram in a cosy pub with a lively atmosphere. The team are super friendly and knowledgeable and will offer banter at the bar as they guide you through their ever-growing collection of whisky. Along with the all-important collection of the good stuff guests are drawn to this bar for its live music (with a folk-style vibe) – always good fun. Bar snacks are available too.

Bow Bar
Do not judge a book by its cover is the mantra here. This award-winning and well-established Edinburgh Old-Town bar is ideal for those who wish to experience a dram in its purest form – without fuss or frills. The humble bar boasts a collection of 310 whiskies (at the last count), with emphasis on single malts, all of which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace in ‘real-pub’ setting. A firm favourite with the locals too and when it comes to food soup and snacks are the order of the day.
