This November, an exciting initiative, WFHospo, is set to transform the way people work from home. Organised by SWURF – an Edinburgh based business, this campaign aims to inspire remote workers to trade their home office for a local hospitality venue, offering a win-win solution for both businesses and those working remotely.
The primary goal of WFHospo is to breathe new life into local businesses by boosting foot traffic and increasing revenues. It also provides freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote workers with a refreshing and sociable environment, along with the opportunity to save on mounting household bills.
This innovative campaign has been spearheaded by Edinburgh local, Nikki Gibson, the founder of SWURF, an app that connects remote workers with welcoming hospitality spaces and hosts. Joining her is Anna Lagerqvist Christopherson, a hospitality consultant and former owner of popular Edinburgh Boda Bars.
In Nikki’s own words, “The pandemic altered our lives in numerous ways, with the work landscape experiencing significant changes. ‘Working From Home’ has become the new normal for countless workers, offering freedom and flexibility but often leading to loneliness and isolation. Our cities and neighbourhoods are brimming with underutilised hospitality spaces that deserve to be enjoyed. That’s why we established SWURF a few years ago, using a straightforward aggregation platform to connect people with these places.”
Nikki goes on to explain, “As we approach the winter months, there’s a tremendous opportunity to benefit both venues and remote workers, giving rise to the idea of WFHospo. It’s not just a campaign; it’s a movement. We want to encourage hospitality venues and remote workers to get involved and be part of this exciting initiative.”
Anna Lagerqvist Christopherson adds, “WFHospo in November is precisely what both the hospitality industry and remote workers need. SWURF is encouraging individuals to switch off their home heating and come work at their local venue. It’s a brilliant solution for freelancers, remote workers, and entrepreneurs looking for an alternative workspace. SWURF is a fantastic tool to discover welcoming places.”
She continues, “In my 20 years in the hospitality industry, I’ve never seen a more challenging climate for businesses. The combined impact of Brexit, Covid, and rising living costs has affected us all. Nevertheless, our industry is resilient and determined. That’s why we’re taking action, and we hope many will join the WFHospo movement.”
Participation is open to all and completely free, both for hospitality venues and remote workers. Some Edinburgh based venues include The Garden @ Kimpton Hotel, Dishoom, Chaophraya, The Green Room, The Scotsman, and many other cool places.
