There has been a dramatic rise in the number of cyclists on the road. And with more and more cycle lanes popping up all over the city, travelling on two wheels instead of four, is becoming de rigeuer. With a great selection of bike shops selling new and second-hand bikes for all types of cycling disciplines getting in on the action couldn’t be easier. And as bikes break and tyres burst, access to swift maintenance is vital. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of repair shops in Edinburgh too. Read on to find one that suits your needs.

Soul Cycles
Open every day in the south of the city centre, Soul Cycle gives new life to retro and damaged bikes. It also offers servicing, custom builds and a range of accessories to ensure you’re kept on the road. Pop in and meet the team, along with the friendly shop dog, Jenny. And you can sell them your old wheels if you’re in the market for something new.
Leith Cycle Co
To the north, is Leith Cycle Co, open Monday to Saturday. It’s an environmentally-friendly enterprise, part of the Velorim national tyre and tube recycling scheme. And if you don’t want to invest in your own wheels, you can hire some from here. The shop celebrated its 13th birthday in June and works with both traditional and electric bikes – its knowledgeable team has years of experience.

Pedal Forth
Head further along into Leith’s trendy shore area and you’ll find Pedal Forth. Its location is ideal for those needing access by car (if you’re bringing in an unroadworthy bike for example), as it has free parking. Open Wednesday to Saturday, you’ll also find the team at Leith Market from time to time, providing free bike marking and involved in local cycling events.
Bike Craft Service & Repair
Bike Craft is another Leith based hub, but this one is found in Ocean Terminal shopping centre, at Leith’s tip – having moved from its original location on Ferry Road. Pop in to buy some accessories, for a full overhaul or to take a class in DIY bike maintenance. The vibe here is very family focussed, with seven days a week access. There are four service options, a full repair menu and optional hire, ideal for when yours is in for repair.
The Cycle Service
Having opened in 2014, The Cycle Service is run by Chris and Hannah, with an emphasis on fast same-day repairs. They cater for vintage through to contemporary styles with a large range of spare parts, and are based on the southside of the city close to the Pleasance. Courtesy bikes are offered while you wait for yours to be fixed and there’s a Just Eat stand close by for hourly hire.
The Bike Smith
Located close to Haymarket Station, this is a super handy pitstop for rail-pedal commuters. Consult with staff who have many years of experience in the trade and get your replacement parts at great value prices. This was the team beyond the build and maintenance of Edinburgh’s famed rickshaws, although these days you’ll find them concentrating on private customers.
