There are plenty of restaurants in Edinburgh with spectacular a la carte menus but only a few with outstanding tasting menus. More than the usual three courses, these tasting menus offer a way to explore the depth and breadth of a Chef’s repertoire and to truly make your senses sing. Find out more about restaurants in Edinburgh that offer a tasting menu.
Six By Nico
The best things come in…sixes? Apparently so at Six By Nico the much anticipated Edinburgh branch of the renowned Glasgow eatery. Opened in March 2018, Six by Nico on Hanover Street offers a set six dish menu inspired by a place or a memory, with themes changing every six weeks. Past themes have been the humble ‘chippie’ and more recently ‘Cooking Mexico’. This compact restaurant often has queues out the door of people wanting to try their imaginative dishes, so booking is essential.
The restaurant itself is relaxed and sophisticated with a retro twist. Lighting is subdued in the evenings creating a moody, romantic vibe. The dishes are creative and innovative but not massive and the restaurant is well-paced meaning you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere for a good few hours without leaving feeling over-stuffed!
We love the sense of fun at Six by Nico, a contrast to the often buttoned-up Edinburgh culinary scene.

The Table
Located on Dundas Street in the New Town, The Table is the ‘first interactive’ fine dining experience in Edinburgh. Chef Patron Sean Clark showcases the best of Scotland’s produce in his 7 course set menu.
The table is made up of just ten seats set around a high bench which overlooks the open kitchen. The idea was to offer outstanding food without the formality of traditional dining rooms. There is only one sitting per evening and the menu features European style cooking with a Scottish twist created using modern techniques to elevate classic dishes.
We love the elegant, sophisticated and intimate restaurant. It feels like you are in your friend’s open plan kitchen, watching them rustle up something tasty whilst you sip on some wine.
